Whidbey Green Gardeners soap

by Silly Dog Studios

Our first attempt at a gardener's hand soap in 2020 was pretty dang good. And, Gardener Me knew we could do better. This is the new one, and I love it! It will remove all the garden and farm dirt and grime you can throw at it. At 4 ounces, it's 25% bigger than last year's gardener's soap. And, it also speaks directly to my Whidbey gardener's soul and makes me smile and so damn happy when I'm using it. Likely because it holds Whidbey windfall Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar infused oils and ground usnea lichen from here too (windfall gathered off the ground after winter storms). And because it also has ground kale from my own garden and ground comfrey leaves and flowers from some generous local organic farmer friends who let us bring home a whole car load full (including two bees who came along to keep an eye on their beloved comfrey flowers). Gina finished it with a few drops of a cedar-fir-lavender-patchouli essential oil blend she made just for our gardener bars.

The scent is delightful if you're a gardener or farmer or just someone who loves green vegetables + herbs + the woods. To me it smells like a woodsy kale with a light peppery note. It's beautiful too. I couldn't stop taking photos of it! :-)

Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.

Size: Large, roughly 4 ounce, bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 4 ounces and that the bars can range from 3.8 ounces to 4.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than that for ourselves and our families, and to give as free samples to those who buy our products, and to give as gifts to neighbors in need (last year it was soaps to a local homeless shelter and to frontline healthcare workers at my mom's memory care home). We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)

Ingredients: Windfall Whidbey Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar branches infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus coconut oil, castor oil, sustainably sourced palm oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, ground Whidbey-grown kale, cultivated comfrey leaves and flowers, and windfall usnea lichen, and a cedar-fir-lavender-patchouli essential oil blend.

Packaging: This year, because of the global pandemic, we decided to wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of paper to ensure safe handling. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just put that in the comments field when you order, and you'll get them bare naked! If you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. :-)
