Happy Father's day! And happy all the wonderful men out there who could use some soaps and a salve for self care. This gift set includes two Whidbey Douglas Fir & Juniper hand soaps and a salve, balm, or simple salve of your choice. Details:
- Two Whidbey Douglas Fir & Juniper hand soaps, these 3-ounce bars contain windfall Douglas Fir branches (we gather after windstorms) and Juniper branches gifted to us by friends who had to remove a tree when doing home repairs. Full of soapy suds and the relaxing peace of the generous forest.
A premium salve or balm or a simple salve. This gift set comes with one of the following made with abundant and generous plants here on Whidbey. Choose from among these three options when you order: 1) Release Tension salve (good for rubbing into spots where he tends to hold tension), 2) Whidbey Ferry Traffic Tension balm (specially formulated for relaxing when stuck in a car our loooong summer ferry lines here in the islands but it also works when stuck in any traffic), or 3) Douglas Fir simple salve (a balm for muscle soreness, especially for those who love trees and forests).
As a gift set, the products will be tucked into a Silly Dog Studios gift bag. Whidbey folks can pick up here in Langley or we can priority ship to you through June 14 in time for father's day.
Storage and life of the products: To extend the life of the soap bars, store them where they can dry quickly (like on a soap drainer or folded dry washcloth) after use and where they don't get regular spray from the faucet. Unused, the soap will last a very long time, likely longer than you and me. ;-) Store the salve in a cool, dark place and away from direct sunlight, which will melt it. The salve is best used within two years of purchase.
Size of soap bars: Roughly 3-ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 3 ounces and that the bars can range from 2.8 ounces to 3.7 ounces, most are 3 or more. We keep anything smaller than that for ourselves and our families, to give as gifts to neighbors in need (in the past few years that was soaps to a local shelter for unhouse people and to frontline healthcare workers at Mom's memory care home), and to cut up and give as free surprises and samples to those who buy our products. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)

Packaging: Our salves and balms come in metal, screw top, reusable tins. We currently wrap our soaps in a small piece of food-safe, compostable parchment paper with a paper label to ensure safe handling. Consider recycling the paper or, better yet, use it as a great "brown" in your compost pile or bin.
Note: My specialty is working slowly, carefully, and in step with the local plants and wise women here--listening to them and the ideas they inspire as I go--and then infusing trusted, local, non-endangered Whidbey-grown plants, flowers, herbs, tree branches, and lichens (either from here at Silly Dog Studios or ethically wild gathered nearby on friends' lands and from areas on Whidbey where no spraying of poisons happens) into organic olive oil. These infused oils serve as the base for most of our products.
