In listening to our community this year, we know we’re not the only ones having a hard time falling asleep, staying asleep, and getting enough sleep. New, more relaxing nighttime rituals have begun to help us rest better (and frankly, with my night sweats on top of the state of the human world and somebody's snoring, I need all the help I can get). ;-) This Rest Well Gift set includes one Rest massage oil, one Rest soap, and one herbal sleep pillow. At checkout you have the choice of having it arrive in a Silly Dog Studios gift bag or in our beautiful winter holidays gift box for an additional $5 charge.
In this Rest Well gift set, you receive:
- One Rest massage oil. This bottle holds our own lavender and lemon balm plus windfall local Douglas fir branches and cottonwood buds infused into organic olive oil for 6 weeks to 6 months, depending on the plant. We use a bit of this massage oil on our necks, shoulders, calves, and feet before bedtime (and sometimes nap time, in Daniel's case) or sometimes as a whole body massage before bed.
- One Rest soap. This soap contains our own lavender, catmint, and chamomile, plus a bit of purple clay softness and activated charcoal and a bit of lavender and chamomile essential oils to round out the scent. It smells AMAZING! A great nighttime face washing or shower-before-bedtime soap.
- One Whidbey Deep Sleep herbal sleep pillow. This pillow full of dried herbs and plants contains our own hops, lavender, lemon balm, Douglas fir, catmint, and a pinch of rosemary. Squeeze it and take a few deep breaths before bed, or tuck it into your pillowcase or under your pillow as you sleep. Just see what happens.
The gift set comes in a Silly Dog Studios gift bag, which is a made-from-recycled-materials kraft paper bag with our adorable logo on the front and holiday green tissue paper. It ships in a brown cardboard box. For an additional $5 we will ship it in a festive winter holidays gift box (with images of green and white evergreen branches, holly branches, and pine cones on the box--see photo).
Whidbey folks, you can choose the Pick Up option to avoid shipping costs at check out, and you can pick up from our herbal studio here. We can ship priority in the continental US until December 15, 2021 to get this gift to someone in time for Christmas. If there's another winter holiday you're aiming for (hurray for Diwali, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Boxing Day!), please allow 10 calendar days for shipping in the continental US. It likely won't take that long but we don't want to disappoint you if the post office decides to take its sweet time!
Storage and life of the products: To extend the life of our soap bars, store them where they can dry quickly after use and where they don't get regular spray from the faucet. Unused, soap bars will last a very long time, likely longer than you and me. ;-) Store the massage oils in a cool, dark place, on a hard surface you don’t mind getting a little oil on, and away from direct sunlight. Best to use the oils within 12 to 18 months of purchase. Sleep pillows are meant to be tucked into your pillowcase, under your pillow, or kept on a bedside table for easy access and used as needed. Depending on your climate and use, the well-dried herbs within should last at least a year or many more. You can also open the sleep pillow and add in more dried herbs to lengthen their life span. Because they can be opened, make sure you use them safely around young children and puppies. Here we had a new puppy find and tear one open, proudly dragging its contents all over the house.
Size of soap bar: Roughly 4 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 4 ounces and that the bars can range from 3.7 ounces to 4.5 ounces, most are 4 or more. We keep anything smaller than that for ourselves and our families, and to give as gifts to neighbors in need (last year it was soaps to a local homeless shelter and to frontline healthcare workers at my mom's memory care home), and to cut up and give as free surprises and samples to those who buy our products. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients in the:
Rest soap: Whidbey-grown (at Silly Dog Studios) lavender, chamomile, and catmint infused in organic extra virgin olive oil, shea butter, organic coconut oil, castor oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, purple clay, activated charcoal, and lavender and chamomile essential oils.
Rest massage oil (4 ounce bottle): Our own lavender and lemon balm (from Silly Dog Studios), Whidbey windfall Douglas fir branches (from Silly Dog Studios and walks in neighboring woods), and windfall black cottonwood buds (from walks at Mountain Tree Farm in Arlington and our friend Laura's farm here on Whidbey) infused into organic olive oil for 6 to 8 weeks (lavender, lemon balm, Douglas fir) to 6+ months (cottonwood buds).
- Small herbal sleep pillow: Whidbey-grown and gathered (from here at Silly Dog Studios) dried hops, lavender, lemon balm, Douglas fir, catmint, and rosemary.
Packaging: Massage oils come in reusable, clear glass bottles with screw-top metal lids. This one is a 4-ounce bottle. Our soaps come wrapped in a small piece of food-safe, compostable parchment paper. Recycle or compost the paper as a good "brown" in your compost bin/pile. The sleep pillow is our own herbs and plants dried and gathered into a small stitched drawstring cotton bag that you use for a long time as a sleep pillow. You can empty and reuse it as you see fit whenever you stop using it as a sleep pillow. If you live off island and we ship offerings to you, they will show up in a recycled cardboard box surrounded by either recycled paper or re-used materials that we received from trusted others. Our Silly Dog Studios gift bag is made with recycled products and can be reused, recycled, or shredded into compost. The winter holiday gift boxes are from Papermart. They are made of 80-90% post consumer recycled paper and printed with non-toxic inks. They can be reused or recycled too.
