We originally made these dog shampoo bars for our own dogs Eva Louise Jellybean and Cora Bella "Bugs" Bootzalini. Friends love them so now we're sharing! This gift set contains one Whidbey Chamomile & Mint dog shampoo bar and one Whidbey Lemon Balm & Mint dog shampoo bar and ships in a winter holidays gift box:
- Whidbey Chamomile & Mint. This bar contains our own chamomile, which smells great and may support your dog in feeling calmer and more relaxed at bath time, and it's good for skin. It also contains our own peppermint and spearmint, both of which smell great, which is why we use them. Their presence may also support repelling fleas and other insects, though they weren't formulated as insect repellant.
- Whidbey Lemon Balm & Mint. This one contains our own lemon balm, which smells great and may also support your dog in feeling calmer and relaxed. It also contains our own peppermint and spearmint, both of which smell great as well. All of these herbs are also known to repel dog-bothering insects, such as fleas and mosquitos. If you're interested, we recommend looking into these herbs further, because we use them in other forms (not shampoo--but such as in tea form and even small amounts chopped onto food) to aid in easing digestive issues and sore muscles.
This gift set ships in a festive winter holidays gift box with images of green and white evergreen branches, holly branches, and pine cones on the box (see photos). You can also choose to give the gift in our Silly Dog Studios gift bag.
Whidbey folks, you can choose the Pick Up option to avoid shipping costs at check out, and you can pick up from our herbal studio here. We can ship priority in the continental US until December 15, 2021 to get this gift to someone in time for Christmas. If there's another winter holiday you're aiming for (hurray for Diwali, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Boxing Day!), please allow 10 calendar days for shipping in the continental US. It likely won't take that long but we don't want to disappoint you if the post office decides to take its sweet time!
To use these bars: Get your dog wet and the shampoo bar wet. Rub the shampoo bar on your dog, taking care to avoid sensitive areas like eyes, nose, and mouth. Rub until you get the amount of lather you want or until your wild and crazy bath loving (or hating) dog goes tearing across the yard. Then rinse the shampoo away with water. Off your dog, off your self, and anyone else who got involved. If your dog rolled in something particularly nasty, you might need to repeat the previous steps. Then, towel dry as needed. Some people like to use wash cloths, fancy brushes, dog wash mitts, or bathtubs. That's all good. At our house, its the shampoo bar and the hose outside because the dogs adore the hose and don't even realize they're getting a bath until well into the process. Important: Do not use this bar on a cat. It was not formulated for cats. Besides, bathing cats has been known to be hazardous to human health. ;-)
Storage and life of the bar: Store the bars where they can dry quickly and where they don't sit in water (on a soap holder/drainer or even just on a dry folded wash cloth to dry is fine). How long your dog shampoo bar lasts also depends on factors such as how much lather you need/like, how long and thick your dog's hair is, and how often your dog rolls in smelly things or gets stinky. Eva's old friend Raddley has weekly romances with dead fish on the beach each summer. Meanwhile, Eva and Cora rarely get baths--usually when they've spent a whole day at the ocean in their super suits (dog vests) or hung out in a late-summer-green lake and they smell nasty. If allowed to dry quickly, the bar should last as long or longer than a standard size bottle of dog shampoo.
Size: Roughly 4 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 4 ounce and that the bars can range from 3.8 ounces to 4.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than 3.8 ounces for ourselves and our families, to give as gifts to neighbors in need, and to cut up as free samples. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients of the Whidbey Chamomile & Mint dog shampoo bar: Grown on Whidbey (at Silly Dog Studios) chamomile, peppermint, and spearmint infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, sodium lactate, a few drops of chamomile and peppermint essential oils.

Packaging: Bars are wrapped in a food safe, compostable parchment paper with a paper label. If possible, recycle packaging or, better yet, cut it up and compost it--they make a great "brown" for compost bins. The gift bag can be recycled or shredded into a compost bin or pile too.
Medical disclaimer: This bar contains the same quality ingredients that our human shampoo bars have, but they've been specially formulated for dogs using locally grown & loved-by-our-ancestors plants known to be loving to and agreeable to most dogs. We have many friends using these bars now and have yet to meet a dog who reacted negatively to them. That said, trust your dog! Stop using the bar if your particular dog doesn't respond well to the ingredients.
