Dish soap bar & handmade soap rest set

by Silly Dog Studios

This set pairs our beloved Orange Clove dish bar with a cool Western red cedar soap rest made by our dear friend. There are so many trees at Mountain Tree Farm--a sister-run farm in Arlington, WA--that they have some trees naturally fall down every year. Our friend Teresa uses one of these windfall trees to make cool soap rests, by hand, and then she sands them smooth. This first batch is raw wood from western red cedar trees. Depending on which trees happen to fall, future batches may be finished with a natural product to prolong the life of the wood in the soap rest. You could also do that yourself with these, although the cedar handles water well. Teresa does warn that they could stain white grout as the wood loses a tiny bit of color now and then, but most countertops these days won't mind. The soap rests are 3.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches long, and just under an inch tall.

In the comments as you purchase, you can ask for a Peppermint holiday dish soap bar instead, we do have a few left. If we don’t have any left when you order, I’ll email you and let you know.

About the dish soap bars... Our dish soap bars work best in combination with a dishcloth, loofah, or other dish scrubby thing. The bars aren't as bubbly as commercial dish liquids, so you'll need to adjust your expectations about that. They do, however, smell great and clean really well. Personally I use them to hand wash a few dishes every day--all those cups and plates and flatware that magically didn't make it into the dishwasher, which we are currently fortunate enough to have.

Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use and where it doesn't receive regular spray from the faucet. We store ours on a draining dish beside the sink. My own trick is storing the new bar standing on one of its narrow ends at first. This makes it easier to get off the dish where it lives after it dries.

Size of bar: These bars are roughly 4 ounces. These are made by hand in small batches and individually hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means bars can vary a tiny bit in size (3.6 - 4.5 oz). We weight them all and keep anything smaller than 3.6 oz for ourselves and our families, to give away as free samples to people who order from us, and to give as gifts to neighbors in need (last year it was soaps to a local homeless shelter and to healthcare frontline staff at my mom's memory care home). We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)

Dish soap bar Ingredients: Organic coconut oil, organic olive oil, hand grated and dried orange peel, ground cloves, sodium hydroxide, and orange essential oil.

Packaging: At the moment we wrap our soaps, shampoo bars, and dish soap bars in a small piece of compostable, food-safe paper to ensure safe handling. If you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a (made of recycled materials) cardboard box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. ;-)
