This collection was created by the 10 Douglas fir trees that serve on our board of directors. This gift set is intended for other people with deep connections to forests or trees and for those wanting deeper connections with forests or trees. This gift set ships in a festive winter holidays box covered with images of evergreen branches and includes:
- One Forest Bathing soap. We love to soak in the scent of Douglas fir and Western Red cedar when showering! Made with windfall branches gathered after windstorms.
- One Dandelion Nettle shampoo bar. We gather nettles from along trails in the woods here on Whidbey and dandelions from open grassy patches and fields within the woods. Together they make an excellent shampoo bar!
- One Douglas Fir lotion bar. We keep this one on our desks and in our studios, and we use it to moisturize our hands when we're working. Made with windfall branches gathered after windstorms.
- One Walk in the Woods (Douglas fir) massage oil. We use this for calming our minds and relaxing our muscles when we feel tense. This was our first product. The trees' idea, and we still love it. Smells like the forest here. Use this oil within 12 months of purchase because only the nature of the fir and the olives preserve this oil. I refill these bottles at half price for Whidbey locals and friends visiting Whidbey.
This gift set ships in a festive winter holidays gift box with images of green and white evergreen branches, holly branches, and pine cones on the box (see photos). You can also choose to give the gift in our more simple Silly Dog Studios gift bag for a reduced rate.
Whidbey folks, you can choose the Pick Up option to avoid shipping costs at check out, and you can pick up from our herbal studio here. We can ship priority in the continental US until December 15, 2021 to get this gift to someone in time for Christmas. If there's another winter holiday you're aiming for (hurray for Diwali, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Boxing Day!), please allow 10 calendar days for shipping in the continental US. It likely won't take that long but we don't want to disappoint you if the post office decides to take its sweet time!
Supply is limited. This set contains our own seasonally gathered plants and herbs, and when they're gone for the season, they're gone until at least next year. :-) Additional details about these products are below and can also be found on the individual product pages of this website.
Storage and life of the products: To extend the life of the soap bars and shampoo bars, store them where they can dry quickly (like on a soap drainer or folded dry washcloth) after use and where they don't get regular spray from the faucet. Unused, the soap and shampoo bars will last a very long time, likely longer than you and me. ;-) Store the lotion bar and the massage oil in a cool, dark place and away from direct sunlight. The lotion bar and massage oil are best used within 18 months of purchase.
Size of soap and shampoo bars bars: These soaps are roughly 4-ounce bars and these shampoo bars are roughly 3.8 ounces. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means that the bars can range a bit. But we keep anything too small for ourselves and our families, to give as gifts to neighbors in need, and to cut up and give as free surprises and samples to those who buy our products. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients in Forest Bathing soap (4 oz): Whidbey windfall and gifted Douglas Fir and Western red cedar branches plus our own roses (petals, buds, and new leaves) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus organic coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, jojoba oil, and fir, cedar, and rose essential oils.
Ingredients in Dandelion Nettle shampoo bar (3.8 oz): Grown on Whidbey (here at Silly Dog Studios and also ethically gathered from neighbor's land, fields, and woods where no poison spraying happens) dandelion flowers and stinging nettle tops infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, sodium lactate, and a few drops of peppermint essential oil.
Ingredients in Douglas Fir lotion bar (2 oz): Windfall Douglas Fir branches (typically gathered from beneath trees at Silly Dog Studios and walks in neighboring woods after winter storms) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil for 6 to 10 weeks, shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, and 2 to 3 drops of the most delightful fir essential oil anywhere in my opinion, ethically made by our neighbors at Whidbey Herbal.
Ingredients in Walk in the Woods massage oil (2 oz bottle): Whidbey winfall Douglas Fir branches (from Silly Dog Studios & walks in neighboring woods) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil. Use within 12 to 18 months because the only preservative in this oil is the nature of the the plants themselves.
Packaging: Our lotion bars come in metal reusable tins and these massage oils come in 2-ounce amber bottles with pump tops. We currently wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of food-safe, compostable parchment paper with a paper label to ensure safe handling. Consider recycling the paper or, better yet, rip it into pieces and use it as a great "brown" in your compost pile or bin. If you live off island and we ship offerings to you, they will show up in a recycled cardboard box surrounded by either recycled paper or re-used materials that we received from trusted others. Our Silly Dog Studios gift bag is made with recycled paper products and can be reused, recycled, or shredded into compost. The winter holiday gift boxes are from Papermart. They are made of 80-90% post consumer recycled paper and printed with non-toxic inks. They can be reused or recycled too.

I'm an herbalist like my grandmother before me, and I am interested in community, planetary, personal, emotional, and spiritual wellness. I have a doctorate degree in education (EdD). I am not a medical doctor or a scientist, nor have I been pregnant. I lean on ever-deepening relationships with local forests, plants and herbs and flowers and lichen, local wise women, ancestors, other herbalists, insects, birds, and I love learning traditional folk ways from people who love to share them across old boundaries, every chance I get. I intentionally study forests and plants directly, plus community wellness and connectedness, resilience, self-organizing groups, playfulness and deep fun, and life as experienced by those with different ancestors than my own--because I believe these are what we need to learn more about right now.
