We call this our forest-bathing soap, because for us using this soap in the shower or the bath has a similar relaxing, calming effect to walking in the woods. Sometimes more calming, honestly, because this year we spend half our forest walks telling puppy Cora to stop eating slugs, and ants, and spiders, and bird poo, and horse poo, and rocks, and other random things off the ground in the woods, while the trees look down on us with humor and delight.
These bars are made with Douglas Fir branches gathered on Whidbey Island after winter storms and Western red cedar branches given to us as gifts from friends who had to trim branches due to home expansion or home maintenance projects. The soap cleans like a champ and most people find the fir/cedar scent to be both relaxing and uplifting--like sitting against a a generous tree after a long, hard day.
Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use (such as on a soap drainer or on a folded, dry wash cloth) and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.
Size: Roughly 4 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 4 ounce and that the bars can range from 3.8 ounces to 4.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than that for ourselves and our families, to give as gifts to neighbors in need, and to cut up into free samples. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients: Whidbey windfall Douglas Fir and gifted Western red cedar branches infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus castor oil, sustainably sourced palm oil, coconut oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, and fir essential oil.
Packaging: We wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of food-safe, compostable paper to ensure safe handling. If possible, recycle the paper or, better yet, use it as a good "brown" in your compost bin or pile. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just specify that in the Comments field when you order, and you'll get them bare naked! However, if you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. ;-)
