Dandelion Lavender Rose Lip Balm for Awesome People

by Silly Dog Studios

Originally made for a friend’s wise and wonderful 6-year-old, these lip balms were created to be safe enough for children as well as adults. This nourishing, softening lip balm for awesome people is a celebration of local plants. Made with our own rose petals and rose buds and lavender plus ethically foraged local dandelion flowers and cottonwood buds infused into olive oil. No essential oils--just the natural scent of the flowers and buds infused into organic olive oil, so the balm is gentle.

And, as with all new products, you should still start slow and make sure you/your family’s bodies like the plants in this balm. Discontinue use if your body isn’t happy. There are a couple of drops of castor oil per tin of lip balm to make this balm silky smooth and even more softening. In much higher doses, castor oil can be used a laxative, so please don’t eat dozens of tins of lip balm. Come to think of it, don’t eat even one tin of lip balm. The balm is for your lips not your belly. Please share this tip with children if the lip balm is shared with children.

Ingredients: Ethically wild-gathered local dandelion flowers, our own rose petals and buds and lavender, and ethically wild-gathered local cottonwood buds (from friends' trees) infused into olive oil, plus Shea butter, beeswax, a couple drops of castor oil, and beet root powder (added to make the salve a subtle pink in the tin—not enough added to make the balm color or stain lips pink).

Size: Tins are 2.01 inch by 1.05 inch and each one weighs at least .5 ounces.

Packaging: Lip balm is in a reusable, food grade rectangular slider tin made by Specialty Bottle, Seattle Wa. Labels are moisture-resistant white film lip balm labels by Avery.

Medical Disclaimer: The information on this page is for general reference for further exploration and study. It is not intended as a replacement for professional medical advice. I'm an herbalist, trained in the Wise Woman tradition, who leans on ever-deepening relationships with local forests and plants and herbs and flowers and lichen, local wise women, ancestors (my own and others), other herbalists, and learning traditional folk ways from people who love to share them, every chance I get. I intentionally study forests and plants directly, plus community wellness and connectedness, resilience, self-organizing groups, playfulness and deep fun, and life as experienced by those with different ancestors than my own. I am especially interested in the emotional support offered by the plants and trees around us. I make my products to support human friends in reconnecting with the trees and plants near them and to help them as they deepen relationships with these wise and often leafy community members that so many in my own culture can no longer even see, let alone lean on for support. I believe these things are what we need to learn more about or become better at right now. I don't study illness and disease, I'm not a medical doctor or a scientist (my masters and doctorate degrees are in education), and I've also never been pregnant. So, please, to make well-informed decisions for yourself, seek the guidance of your qualified health professional, such your medical doctor, nurse practitioner, naturopathic physician, and/or clinical herbalist with questions regarding your medical conditions, dosage information, and possible interactions with prescription drugs. This is especially important if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescription drugs, have a chronic disease or any chronic concern, have allergies, or if you are using this product with young children.
