These bars are made with Douglas Fir branches gathered from the forest floor after winter wind storms and with branches gifted to us by neighbors when they cut back branches during home expansion and maintenance projects. This soap smells divine, feels great on the skin, and washes dirt away like a champ. And bonus: here, we've noticed that the scent of Douglas Fir calms our minds and eases tension and stress. Could that be true for you too? We suspect and hope so.
The ten Douglas Fir trees on our property are members of the Silly Dog Studios board of directors, and they guide our decision making. This is a product the trees here thought we should make to help neighbors and visitors connect more deeply to the trees near them. If that's too "woo woo" for you, no worries. The soap is great even without our back story. ;-)
Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.
Size: Roughly 3 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 3 ounce and that the bars can range from 2.8 ounces to 3.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than 2.8 ounces for ourselves and our families and to give as gifts to neighbors in need. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients: Whidbey storm-fallen and gifted Douglas Fir branches (from Silly Dog Studios, walks in neighboring woods, & gifts from neighbors) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus castor oil, sustainably sourced palm oil, coconut oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, sodium lactate, and fir essential oil.
Packaging: This year, because of the global pandemic, we decided to wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of paper to ensure safe handling. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just put that in the comments field when you order, and you'll get them bare naked! If you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. :-)
