Whidbey Douglas Fir lotion bar

by Ritual Mischief

$16.00

These lotion bars are made with windfall Douglas fir branches that we gather after winter windstorms on Whidbey Island. And occasionally, from a branch that was trimmed for tree health or family health here. We clean up and cut up the branches then infuse them in organic olive oil for 6 to 12 weeks, as needed, until the sweetness and scent of the fir permeate the oil.

Directions: Hold the bar between your palms to warm it, and then rub into dry hands, arms, legs, and feet, just like regular body lotion.

Ingredients: Windfall Douglas Fir branches (typically gathered from beneath trees at Ritual Mischief and walks in neighboring woods after winter storms) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil for 6 to 12 weeks, shea butter, local beeswax, organic coconut oil, and 2 to 3 drops of fir essential oil and Douglas fir essential oil, the most delightful fir essential oil anywhere IMO, ethically made by our neighbors at Whidbey Herbal.

Packaging: This bar comes in a silver, reusable, food-grade metal tin. Visit the Packaging page for more details.

Size: The bars are small batch, hand poured, and are all at least 2 ounces. Often they're more like 2.2 to 2.3 ounces. Douglas fir trees are generous like that.

Our part in the story: In 2016, the Douglas Fir trees drew us to the land we're on now. These trees wanted us here, so here we are. These trees became family, and it was by listening to them--in concert with my grandmothers' life lessons--that turned me (Lori) into an herbalist. These trees sit on our board of directors now and help us with plant selection, people relationships, loss and grief, remembering to laugh and dance, keeping cool, writing poetry, staying grounded (I have a tendency to float in the clouds on my own), and they help us with new offering ideas too. They're also hilarious and sometimes tell tree jokes. The birds love them, we love them, and we’re deeply honored to get to be among the people who listen to and work with forests and trees.

Notice for people who live in warmer climates: These bars were made for locals and formulated for the Pacific Northwest in the U.S. They begin to melt at body temperature. If you live in a place substantially warmer than here (where summer temps are usually around 70-75 degrees F), you may find them too melt-y for your taste. Also, if we ship them to you during warm months, watch for them and get them out of your warm mailbox or out of the box on your warm porch ASAP!

Medical disclaimer: Stop using if your body doesn't like these plants. To make well-informed decisions for yourself, seek the guidance of your qualified health professional, such as your medical doctor, nurse practitioner, naturopathic physician, and/or clinical herbalist with questions regarding your medical conditions, dosage information, and possible interactions with prescription drugs.
