New formulation! We call this our forest-bathing soap, because for us using this soap in the shower or the bath has a similar relaxing, calming effect to walking in the woods. Sometimes it’s even more calming, honestly, because this year we spend half our forest walks telling Cora to stop eating salal berries and blackberries and huckleberries, and slugs and ants and spiders, and bird poo, and horse poo, and other random things off the ground in the woods, while the trees look down on us with humor and delight.
These bars are made with Douglas Fir and Western Red cedar branches gathered from trusted Whidbey Island forest floors after winter wind storms and sometimes branches given to us as gifts from trusted neighbors who had to trim branches due to deck or home expansion or home maintenance projects. And we’ve added a few local roses (rose petals, buds, and new leaves) to the mix because so many wild rugosa and Nootka roses great us as we walk into and out of the woods here. The soap cleans like a champ and most people find the fir+cedar+rose scent to be both relaxing and uplifting.
Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use (such as on a soap drainer or on a folded, dry wash cloth) and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.
Size: Roughly 4 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 4 ounce and that the bars can range from 3.7 ounces to 4.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than that for ourselves and our families, to give as gifts to neighbors in need, and to cut up into free samples and gifts. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients: Whidbey windfall and gifted Douglas Fir and Western red cedar branches plus our own roses (petals, buds, and new leaves) infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus organic coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, jojoba oil, and fir, cedar, and rose essential oils.
Packaging: We wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of food-safe, compostable paper to ensure safe handling. If possible, recycle the paper or, better yet, use it as a good "brown" addition to your compost bin or pile. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just specify that in the Comments field when you order, and you'll get them bare naked! However, if you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. ;-)
